Honey Hunters

Honey gathering may sound like a normal rural occupation but it is perhaps the most dangerous job in the world. The Honey hunters normally go from island to island for about three weeks in their boats collecting honey, made by some of the largest and most aggressive bees in the world.
The honey hunters take risk of their lives, against pirates and wild animals, including pythons, king cobras, crocodiles and Bengal tigers for this liquid gold.
Honey hunters locally known as "Mawals". This is a dangerous occupation as many honey hunters die in tiger attacks which are common in this area.
Once a hive is found, the torches are lit and a thick smoke drives the bees from the nest. There are some harvest ritual, which varies slightly from community to community, begins with a prayer and sacrifice of flowers, fruits, and rice.
Every year a festival of honey hunting by the honey hunters organized by the local govt. of Khulna. All honey hunters across the region gathered in a place near sundarban forest office and official personal official declares the opening of the festivals. The festivals continues from March to June.
